ABOUT TAPAWINGO

The Tapawingo Honor Society was that program through which young people were given final preparation for service as counselors at Camp Minisink. The name "Tapawingo" derives from that given ("House of Joy") to a new cabin built to house young women, under head girls counselor Gladys V Thorne; while young men in the process resided in "Talaqua" (headquarters, in history, of the "Indian Territory"), under Father Dudley Cobham.  Since 1949, upwards of 700 young people have been accepted into the Society.
